Route AZURE

In the 14th century, Avignon became the centre of Christendom. This trail will take you past many of the buildings that testify to the splendour of the Pope's court at the time. The imposing Papal Palace, the famous St Bénézet Bridge, the superbly preserved ramparts, the countless churches and chapels that are all veritable architectural gems.

Nowadays the Capital of the Côtes du Rhône bursts into life every summer with its internationally renowned theatre festival. You will then move on to Châteauneuf du Pape, where the Popes had their summer residence, and then on to Châteauneuf de Gadagne, where Frédéric Mistral breathed new life into the ancient Provençal language.
